Lemmingball Z
Lemmingball Z is a fighting game for linux and windows, loosely based on `Dragonball Z` the hit anime. And when we say loosely based, we mean with a big twist. Instead off the normal characters from the anime, this game features cute LEMMINGS fighting DBZ style!

Main features

  • Destructable 3d terrain
  • Ability to add your own levels/characters/moves to the game
  • Multiplayer with 2-4 players online or local
  • Good old-fashioned Hot-seat play
  • Slow-motion, like in “The Matrix”
  • Fancy graphics, like cell-shading and stuff
  • Netplay, without configuring or hamachi
  • Stupid AI to practice with
  • Blood! lots of it! 😄

LBZ was created somewhere at the end of 1999 and the start of 2000. It was my first try at making a game, up till then i only coded small utility’s/effects. LBZ was first written in Quick BASIC, for DOS and it had 800×600 resolution and sprites, and very basic gameplay. When the game became to big for basic, i ported it to PASCAL, but that version did not last very long because a short while after that i ported LBZ to C++ (using opengl for graphics). After this lbz quickly evolved… i got features like destructable terrain and slowmotion.

The future
LBZ is a bit of a “pet project”…. it will constantly evolve. I dont plan on stopping with this for a long time, since it’s a lot of FUN working on LBZ! Things i would like to create for LBZ in the future include:

  • Interactive levels, with scripts, triggered events
  • 100% mod-ability! Be able to mod any aspect of the game. 60% done.
  • Ports to most major game consoles

  1. I when I try to run lbzwin after following the installion note, it says fmodex.dll is not there when it is in the folder. What do I do?

          1. You could try going to your “My Documents” folder, and then to the “LBZ ALPHA Game Data” folder.
Once you are there, remove the “engines” folder and then try to start the game again.

          2. It did work, but then I got an update screen with a part of it was black. Idon’t know if that’s normal or not. But then I cb9 message appeared saying, “Unhandled expection 9ParseFail: ‘Coul not load new VM for data/menu/formatters/animidformatter.lgs’
A logbook of this event will be sent to the developer.
            File;C;/Users/***/Documents/LBZ ALPHA Game Data/cb9runtimelog.txt”

          3. Hi! 1 step further.

I think you can fix this if you execute WIN_TOOL_UNINSTALL.BAT, this should clean up the corrupted profile. Then start the game and accept the updates it gives you.

          4. I executed the win tool Uninstall and runned the game. I got a error then the same error from my original problem. I deleted the engines folder runned the game. It worked! Thanks for the support!

  2. Hi there. I’ve installed the game but after starting it it brings up a screen that says ‘Upgrading’ and then it crashes and shows a message saying: “Exception_Access_Violation”. Please help solve this as i am very eager to play this game again. :)

      1. We also had this problem inside the game for a while. As you know LBZ is in active development. We try to work without creating errors, but sometimes they do slip trough…

  3. It keeps sayain see what i did there but it keeps saying that fmodex.dll is missing but it is crearly instaled! help!

    1. Hi! Quick question, where did you put the game? Are you perhaps starting the game directly from the .ZIP file?
The game needs to be extracted to a normal folder before you can run it…

  4. Awesome game! The only thing I’d suggest is a tutorial for special moves and such, it took me a while to figure it out for myself.

  5. doesnt start windows 8.1 download it exctract it place it to C:/Games start the exe its seems you are running for the first time creating document folder lbz needs to restart and then nothing happens i click again to open it after a fiew minutes and still nothing happens help

    1. Okay.. i’ll take a look. the “does not start after installing profile” is a known problem. But when you start c:\Games\lbzwin.exe it should start up again right away.
Did you get any dialog about windows smart screen?
